PA Media Group is considering closing its long-standing Howden East Yorkshire office as part of plans to relocate its northern hub to Leeds, a proposal that a trade union condemned on July 20, citing the branch's role in training and supporting generations of journalists. This follows a July 17 announcement that the Press Association proposed closing its Howden office, its northern hub in East Yorkshire, with up to 140 staff set for relocation. The Howden office, which hundreds of journalists have called home, originally opened in 2002. Earlier, on July 15, more than 140 PA Media Group employees learned they would be uprooted from Howden, Yorkshire, with plans to relocate them to hybrid roles 47 miles away in West Village on Wellington Street in Leeds. The three-storey Howden office had served as the UK's national news agency's northern hub for over two decades, and a consultation plan for the move is now in place.
