Pearl Studio, also known as Shanghai Pearl Studio Film and Television Technology, is a privately owned, vertically integrated animation film production company headquartered in the Xuhui District of Shanghai, China. Founded in 2012, with approximately 180 employees, it reported $24.0M in revenue as of 2024. The company provides media managed services, originally established as Oriental DreamWorks, a Chinese-American joint venture split between DreamWorks Animation (45%) and a Chinese investment consortium led by China Media Capital (CMC), Shanghai Media Group, and Shanghai Alliance Investment. In February 2018, the enterprise achieved full financial autonomy when CMC Capital Partners acquired NBCUniversal's remaining equity stake, relaunching the enterprise as a 100% Chinese-owned global animation entity. Pearl Studio functions as a bridge between East and West, engineering high-fidelity, culturally resonant computer-generated imagery (CGI) tailored for international syndication. Its intellectual property library includes the co-produced Kung Fu Panda 3, the original feature Abominable (distributed globally by Universal Pictures), and the Oscar-nominated musical fantasy Over the Moon for Netflix.
