Penn State Network Television, also known as PSNtv, is a privately owned entity based in the US. Founded in 1965, the organization operates with approximately 60 employees. The company specializes in broadcast media production and distribution, encompassing the creation and dissemination of various forms of media content.
On October 1, 2026, WHYY completed its acquisition of WPSU from Penn State University, expanding the Philadelphia-based public media organization's reach into central and northern Pennsylvania. This transaction officially separated WPSU from Penn State after a nearly two-year process, preserving public television and radio service for approximately 1.5 million residents across WPSU’s coverage area. WPSU will maintain its existing name, call letters, local operations, and local focus, following a finalized $1 asset transfer. Penn State University initiated this separation due to financial challenges. Previously, on September 13, 2026, the Federal Communications Commission granted Penn State University’s request to transfer ownership of WPSU’s television and FM radio broadcast licenses to WHYY. This regulatory approval followed two years of discussions about a deal designed to save WPSU from closure, as the university had indicated it could no longer afford to operate the station.
