Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH), also known as Albanian Radio and Television, is Albania's state-owned public broadcaster. Established in 1938, RTSH operates multiple radio and television channels domestically via a transmitter network and satellite. Its international satellite service, RTSH Sat, launched in 1993, targets Albanian-speaking communities in neighboring countries and the Albanian diaspora. RTSH's funding comes from a combination of advertising revenue, a yearly license fee of US$10, and government grants. The company employs approximately 100 people, with revenues under US$25 million in 2023. RTSH is a member of the European Broadcasting Union.
In April 2024, Eni Vasili assumed the role of director. Shortly after, on an unspecified date in April 2024, contributors reported delayed payments and a lack of information regarding their compensation. These reports were confirmed by others, leading Vasili to acknowledge a "catastrophic situation of debts and obligations" to BIRN. The financial difficulties also threatened Albania's participation in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest due to outstanding payments to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Despite initial concerns about severed ties with the EBU, Albania's participation in Eurovision was confirmed. The financial situation at RTSH remains precarious, with some employees reporting months of unpaid wages.
