It operates as a terrestrial television station, established as the first private channel in Cambodia. The company functions as a joint venture between the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence and the Thai media conglomerate Kantana Group (via its local subsidiary, Mica Media Co., Ltd.). Its governance structure involves the Ministry of Defence overseeing news content and political guidelines, while the Kantana Group manages entertainment, advertising, and technical production. TV5 is noted for its early adoption of digital broadcasting within Cambodia and serves audiences, particularly in rural and traditional areas, within the national media landscape.
