Sanya Phoenix International Airport, publicly owned, is headquartered in China. Founded in 1994, it employs approximately 70 individuals. The company operates as an international airport serving the city of Sanya in South Central China's Hainan province, located about 15 km (9 mi) northwest of the city center. Functioning as a main airport hub, it comprises close to ten thousand acres, featuring a runway approximately 3,400 metres (11,200 feet) long and 60 metres (200 feet) wide, designed to accommodate the take-off and landing requirements of large aircraft such as the fully weighted Boeing 747 and Airbus A340.
