The company specializes in software development and operates as a global technology company across Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Brazil. An industry podcast on July 10, 2026, discussed Shopee and Meta's recent push into social commerce. Previously, on July 9, Shopee, controlled by Singapore's Sea Group, announced it will shift responsibility for reporting taxes on affiliate and influencer commissions onto its Brazilian sellers starting August 1. This change moves away from Shopee's previous practice of directly withholding income, social-security, and municipal service taxes. Also on July 9, Shopee launched its "Buy Today Get Today" service in Singapore, offering free islandwide same-day delivery for eligible Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS) items, without a minimum spend. Earlier that day, Shopee Philippines President Vincent Lee reported that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Visayas and Mindanao (VisMin) region saw a 51% surge in average orders per seller from 2023 to 2025, driven by national expansion through digital commerce. A company-commissioned study highlighted this growth, identifying VisMin as a key driver for the country's digital economy, with MSMEs scaling faster via e-commerce and adopting AI-powered selling tools.
