South Africa’s National Treasury allocated R700 million to signal distributor Sentech in the 2026 budget on June 19, without reviewing the entity’s business model, governance structure, or long-term financial sustainability. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana acknowledged this in a response to Parliamentary questions from BOSA’s Mmusi Maimane. Previously, on May 26, Sentech Africa Tech Week 2026 highlighted Africa’s digital future, gathering government leaders, regulators, investors, enterprise decision-makers, innovators, and technology providers from across the continent. This follows Sentech naming Flenk Mnisi as its new chief operating officer (COO), effective May 18, as announced on May 25. Mnisi was appointed acting COO prior to his official appointment and held several key leadership positions within the organization.
