Seton Hall University (SHU) is a privately owned Roman Catholic research university located in South Orange, New Jersey. Founded in 1856 by Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley and named for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, it holds the distinction of being the oldest diocesan university in the United States.
