Shopee, a publicly owned company founded in 2015 and headquartered in Singapore, is an e-commerce platform primarily operating in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. Part of Sea Limited, a global consumer internet company, Shopee's main product is software development for its online marketplace. As of an unspecified date, the company employed approximately 46,870 people. Its services have expanded since its initial launch in Singapore to include Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Shopee increased commissions charged to merchants in several key markets by approximately one-third since the beginning of the year. On September 9th, 2024, Shopee's 9.9 campaign in Thailand saw over one million orders placed within 30 minutes of its launch. A report, Marketplace Thailand 2024, indicates that Shopee's logistics arm, SPX Express, reported 23.49 billion baht in revenue and 469 million baht in net profit. This contrasts with Lazada Express, which generated 14.32 billion baht in revenue and 1.74 billion baht in net profit during the same period.
