Somoy Media, a privately owned company headquartered in Bangladesh, was founded in 2010 and acquired by Bangladeshi industrial conglomerate City Group in the same year. Operating with approximately 400 employees, the company functions as the broadcasting corporate entity behind Somoy TV, a 24-hour news-oriented satellite television channel specializing in media production. Operating out of its corporate complex at the Nasir Trade Centre in Dhaka, Somoy Media delivers 24/7 news reporting, political analysis, and digital journalism, utilizing Direct-to-Home (DTH) Satellite Relay, Managed Digital Cable, and Over-the-Top (OTT) IP Web Data Streaming for content distribution.
Somoy TV, alongside state-run BTV and T-sports, will live telecast all FIFA World Cup 2026 matches for local audiences in Bangladesh. Ahmed Raqib, T-sports' head of marketing, confirmed on June 5 that they received a letter of confirmation from BTV, which secured the broadcast rights for the country. Previously, on May 15, a convening committee formed to launch the "Television Editors Council," aiming to improve professional standards of television journalism, ensure editorial independence, promote ethical journalism, and strengthen unity among senior news leaders.
