Earlier, on September 9, Sony DADC clarified that production volumes at its Thalgau, Austria plant will be reduced by approximately 10% in 2028, rather than decreasing to 10% of current levels. This followed an official statement published on the PlayStation Blog on September 7, which indicated that new games released for PlayStation consoles will no longer be produced on physical discs starting January 2028. This shift will not impact games already released or those receiving a physical edition before that deadline. On September 5, Sony DADC had initially clarified that PlayStation disc manufacturing would drop by 10% in 2028, correcting widespread reports that output was facing a drastic 90% reduction due to a misunderstanding of comments made in July by DADC chief Dietmar Tanzer.
