Southwestern Athletic Conference, also known as SWAC, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Founded in 1920, the conference is a collegiate athletic conference comprising historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the Southern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I for most sports and the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) for football, formerly referred to as Division I-AA. The SWAC is noted for its alumni affiliations with professional sports teams, particularly in football.
