The Swedish University Computer Network, also known as SUNET, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Sweden. Founded in 1980, it operates with approximately 80 employees. Functioning as Sweden’s research and education (R&E) network, SUNET specializes in providing computer networking products.
On May 4, 2026, Sunet and Uppsala University disclosed a suspected data breach involving personal data from Uppsala University's Studium platform to Sweden’s Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY). The breach originated from a cyberattack that compromised Studium’s service provider, raising concerns about potential personal data exposure. Earlier, on April 9, 2026, Sunet performed emergency maintenance for Kaltura to apply a security fix, which caused brief interruptions for active clients during container reboots. This followed Sunet's scheduled maintenance work for Zoom and KI-Play on January 29–30, between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM, an event announced on January 15, 2026. Previously, on November 24, 2025, Sunet hosted the 11th cycle of the GÉANT Trust and Identity (T&I) Incubator in Stockholm, gathering T&I experts and innovators from across the research and education community.
