The company specializes in Telecoms, focusing on the manufacturing of advanced RF products, satellite payloads, and systems, including the HummingSat, a small geostationary telecommunications satellite. Its satellites and payloads utilize unique and patented 3D printing technologies and associated Radio Frequency (RF) product designs that deliver lightweight, compact, and highly performing RF functionality. In addition to its space portfolio, the company is active in telecommunications and aerospace applications. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, with offices in the USA and EMEA, SWISSto12 spun off in 2011 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and is backed by Swiss and European Investors.
SWISSto12 announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on September 23, 2026, for a strategic partnership with Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO). The Vaud-based manufacturer of satellite radio-frequency (RF) products and communications payloads aims to develop its market presence in Japan and the APAC region through this collaboration. This followed a discussion on September 22, where Fredrik Gustavsson, Chief Financial and Chief Strategy Officer of SWISSto12, spoke at World Space Business Week in Paris, confirming the Mitsubishi Electric MoU and the intent to bring SWISSto12’s 3D-printed technology and advanced payload capabilities to the region. Previously, on September 18, SWISSto12 and MELCO signed the MoU to jointly pursue opportunities on advanced payloads, RF products, and market development in Japan and the APAC region, leveraging MELCO’s satellite system expertise and SWISSto12’s proprietary 3D-printing designs. Concurrently, MELCO awarded SWISSto12 a contract to build phased array antenna products for a geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) secure communications program for the Japanese government.
