Telefonica Tech and governance platform provider Openlayer signed a partnership agreement on March 27, 2026, to provide enterprises in Europe and Latin America with means to test and assess AI systems before launch and on an ongoing basis. Telefonica Tech will integrate Openlayer’s offering into its AI and data services for the two regions, aiming to align systems used by regulated industries with local rules. Previously, on March 13, 2026, Telefonica Tech deployed NB-IoT technology to connect over 6,300 streetlighting nodes in the Spanish municipality of Burriana, as part of a digitalization scheme intended to deliver environmental and utility benefits. This followed Telefonica Tech's selection by a joint venture between Ferrovial Energia and Endesa to digitize public lighting across Burriana, Valencia, for which it provided the technology in collaboration with Tellink to enable remote management and brightness adjustments. The joint venture announced Telefonica Tech's selection for the project on March 12, 2026.
