TELEIMEDI, also known as IMEDI TV, a privately owned company headquartered in Georgia, was founded in 2001 and employs approximately 190 individuals. Specializing in broadcast media production and distribution, the company operates as a national broadcaster and a prominent private TV channel in Georgia, having been established as part of Imedi Media Holding.
On March 2, 2026, the Georgian government instructed its banks to disregard UK sanctions placed on TELEIMEDI (IMEDI TV) and POSTV, two prominent pro-government television channels. The sanctioned channels, in turn, announced plans to establish their own banking institution. Previously, on February 27, Imedi TV stated its intention to launch "Imedi Bank" within months, backed by "loyal friends and sponsors," following the UK's February 24 sanctions for allegedly spreading "Russian disinformation." This development followed the resignations of four out of five members of Imedi TV's supervisory board on February 25, including former owner Irakli Rukhadze, along with Giorgi Bakhtadze, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and Davit Shonia. The resignations occurred one day after the UK announced the sanctions. Earlier, on February 25, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze affirmed that media freedom would be fully protected at both Imedi TV and POSTV, with the government taking full responsibility to ensure no journalist faces restrictions due to the sanctions.
