New York filed a lawsuit alleging TP-Link Systems, a major consumer router manufacturer, sold devices with known security vulnerabilities that exposed millions of Americans to cyberattacks. Earlier the same day, Texas filed a lawsuit accusing TP-Link Systems of misleading consumers about the security and origins of its routers. Texas's complaint detailed allegations that TP-Link marketed its devices as secure and labeled them "Made in Vietnam" while sourcing nearly all components from China and failing to prevent firmware vulnerabilities from being exploited by Chinese state-backed threat actors.
