Tribune Broadcasting is a privately owned company headquartered in the US, and operates as a subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group. Founded in 1947, the company has an estimated 280 employees. Specializing in broadcast media production and distribution, Tribune Broadcasting historically operated as an American media company. Its operations included owning and operating television and radio stations across the United States, alongside full or partial ownership interests in cable television and national digital subchannel networks.
Nexstar Media Group acquired Tribune Media Company in September 2019. Following the acquisition, Dana Zimmer joined Nexstar as Executive Vice President, Chief Distribution and Strategy Officer in September 2019 and was later appointed President, Distribution & Strategy in October 2021. Also in connection with the acquisition, Sean Compton joined Nexstar as Executive Vice President of WGN America (now NewsNation), WGN Radio, and Director of Content Acquisition in September 2019, and Nexstar appointed him President, Nexstar Networks in November 2020. Nexstar, founded in 1996, became the largest operator of local TV stations in the U.S. after its purchase of Tribune Media in 2019.
