Twin Cities Public Television, also known as Twin Cities PBS or TPT, is a privately owned nonprofit organization headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. Founded in 1957, the organization employs approximately 270 individuals and specializes in broadcast media production and distribution. The company operates the Twin Cities' two PBS member television stations, KTCA-TV (channel 2.1) and KTCI-TV (channel 2.3), both licensed to Saint Paul. Twin Cities PBS produces programs for local, regional, and national television broadcast, in addition to operating numerous websites and producing rich media content for Web distribution.
Twin Cities PBS is stepping in to run Austin-based KSMQ-TV, taking over day-to-day operations under a management programming and asset agreement. This move, announced on April 25, 2026, aims to keep local PBS service alive after KSMQ lost a significant share of its federal funding. Earlier, on April 23, Twin Cities PBS confirmed it had taken over operations of public TV station KSMQ in Austin, Minn., according to documents filed with the FCC; the management and programming agreement was signed on April 14. Previously, on April 7, the organization hosted an exclusive watch party for its new music documentary, "The Wild West Bank Sound," in celebration of Minnesota Music Month with The Current. This followed the documentary's premiere announcement on March 31, 2026, highlighting the film's exploration of the vibrant music culture that emerged in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood and helped shape Minnesota's artistic identity.
