U Mobile is a privately owned telecommunications company headquartered in Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Established in 1991, evolving from its roots as MiTV Networks, the company today employs approximately 2,150 individuals. It provides mobile telephony and broadband services to approximately 9.6 million subscribers, offering unlimited data plans, free international roaming, and affordable 5G-ready services. Led by CEO Wong Heang Tuck, U Mobile was selected by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in late 2024 to build and operate the country’s second 5G network, a project supported by a RM4.3 billion (approx. US$1 billion) syndicated financing facility. The company is currently deploying its "ULTRA5G" network with a target of reaching 80% population coverage by the second half of 2026 and is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in 2025.
