The U.S. Coast Guard is a state-owned entity headquartered in the US, founded in 1790, and operates with approximately 27,900 employees as a branch of the armed forces.
A U.S. Coast Guard Station Miami Beach boat crew rescued three mariners on Friday, March 12, after their vessel began taking on water near Virginia Key, safely transporting them to Crandon Park Marina with no injuries. Also on March 12, the Coast Guard reported on the keel authentication ceremony for the first three Waterways Commerce Cutters (WCC), which Birdon America Inc. hosted on March 6 in Bayou La Batre, Ala., with attendance from senior Coast Guard leaders and industry partners. Earlier on March 12, a Coast Guard spokesperson debunked rumors in tanker circles that owners were registering with the Coast Guard to trade in U.S. Atlantic and Pacific waters, noting awareness of the public reporting. This follows the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Forward (WMEC 911) intercepting a suspected drug-smuggling vessel in the Eastern Pacific Ocean on February 24, where it stopped a 17,600-pound cocaine shipment and detained four suspected smugglers.
