Ubiquiti, a publicly owned company headquartered in the US, was founded in 2005. With approximately 1180 employees, the company reported $2.6B in revenue as of 2025. It specializes in the sale of IT equipment and the provision of related software platforms worldwide.
Ubiquiti recently added a "memory surcharge" to its products, displayed at checkout, sparking debate over transparency and perceived price hikes as the company levies this additional tax due to high RAM and storage pricing. On April 28, Ubiquiti introduced the "Dream Machine Beast," which it described as the next evolution of UniFi gateways, bringing enhanced performance, simplicity, and control by combining networking, security, and centralized management into a single platform. Earlier the same day, Ubiquiti implemented this "Memory Surcharge" of up to 5.8% on products purchased through its official online store, specifying it as a direct response to the global memory and storage shortage impacting the technology industry. This move reflects a broader trend of vendors passing rising chip costs to customers amid the ongoing DRAM and NAND shortage.
