Founded in 1850, the University of Rochester is a privately owned, nonsectarian research university situated in Rochester, New York. Employing approximately 10,530 people, it offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees across seven schools and numerous interdisciplinary programs.
The University of Rochester launched its largest fundraising initiative, "For Ever Better: The Campaign for the University of Rochester," on September 18, 2025, during Meliora Weekend, aiming to raise $1.75 billion. A University of Rochester-led coalition was named a finalist in the National Science Foundation's Regional Innovation Engines program's second competition, focusing on laser science and development in the Rochester/Finger Lakes region. This project, known as STELLAR, seeks $160 million in funding and received praise from U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer. The program was created under his CHIPS & Science Law. Dr. Coraline Iordan, an assistant professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Neuroscience, and Visual Science at the University, presented research on episodic memory and communication.
