The University of Rochester, also known as UR, is a privately owned institution based in Rochester, New York. Founded in 1850, and employing approximately 10,530 individuals, UR functions as a private, nonsectarian, research-intensive university that grants bachelor's, masters, and doctoral degrees through seven schools and various interdisciplinary programs.
The University of Rochester's Office of University Engagement and Enrichment will host a "Restorative Dialogue" series focused on preparing for tough conversations on May 7, 2026, open to all students, staff, and faculty. Previously, on May 4, Well-U will offer biometric screenings for eligible employees at Helen Wood Hall and various other locations. This follows the Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Day on May 3, which features free museum admission and a celebration of music, art, and culture at 500 University Avenue. Earlier on May 2, the Memorial Art Gallery will offer two "Art Start" workshops: "Drawing in the Galleries" from 3:00pm to 4:30pm EDT, where students can deepen their drawing techniques with instruction from Lizz deSimone, and "Carve like John Rhoden" from 1:00pm to 3:00pm EDT, where families can learn sketching, carving, and finishing sculptures after a guided tour of the "Determined to Be: The Sculpture of John Rhoden" exhibition, taught by Kevin Carr.
