VELA and Takeda announced a partnership in which Takeda will use VELA's wind-powered sailing cargo trimaran to transport treatments between Europe and the United States. This collaboration makes Takeda the first biopharma company to utilize this method of transport. The first trip is anticipated by late 2026. The trimaran, designed by VELA, offers a sustainable alternative to traditional container ships, aiming to reduce pharmaceutical shipping emissions by 99%. The vessel features a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls.
