Vela, in collaboration with DHL Global Forwarding France, is preparing to launch 100% wind-powered transatlantic shipping in early 2027. This new low-emission service will utilize Vela's cargo trimaran to transport 600 EU pallets per trip on a direct route between Caen-Ouistreham, France, and New Haven, United States. Earlier on June 25, 2026, DHL Global Forwarding announced its agreement with wind-powered maritime transport company Vela to offer this transatlantic cargo shipping service. The initiative is projected to reduce emissions by up to 99% compared to air freight and up to 90% against conventional sea freight. This development follows DHL Global Forwarding's signing to use wind-powered cargo vessels being developed by the French startup Vela.
