French shipping company Vela's Neoliner Origin low-carbon cargo ship could launch in 2027, according to a February 20, 2026 report. This follows the company's February 11, 2026 announcement detailing its plans for a 100% wind-powered trimaran, expected to commence transatlantic crossings from 2027. The 67-meter-long and 25-meter-wide vessel is designed to transport over 400 tons of cargo between the east coast of the United States and French ports, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by up to 96% and deliver faster than traditional sea freight. Vela, a "green logistics" startup, previously secured 40 million euros (approximately $47.5 million USD) in fall 2024 to support the ship's design.
