Virginia Tech College of Engineering, a state-owned entity based in the US, was founded in 1872 and employs approximately 310 individuals. On February 13, 2026, Virginia Tech demonstrated its impact as a global land grant institution by progressing sustainability within the Commonwealth of Virginia and globally, particularly through research exploring what honey bee brain chemistry can teach about learning. Earlier the same day, the Office of Research and Innovation and University Libraries announced that federal agencies now require researchers to use a digital persistent identifier, such as an ORCID iD, to clearly and consistently identify who produced funded research. This followed a Research Town Hall on February 13, where Senior Vice President Dan Sui and members of the Office of Research and Innovation team held an open conversation regarding the university's research mission, the evolving national and international landscape, and current issues related to research.
