WCNY's Entertainment Academy secured a third-year grant from Empire State Development on May 14, 2026, to expand its workforce training in film and television production, aiming to build a diverse talent pipeline for the region's media industries. Previously, on April 7, WCNY announced its inaugural “Mission: Honor Our Heroes” event, set to recognize Michael Haynie, Rear Admiral John Paddock, and Colonel Bill Smullen for their service. Earlier, on March 24, the locally produced culinary and party show “Spatchcock Funk” returned for its third season, premiering April 7 and airing in more than 50 U.S. markets. In January 2026, WCNY rebranded its monthly public affairs series “CONNECT: NY” as “The Capitol Pressroom,” which airs the last Monday of each month.
