Privately owned Weta Workshop, headquartered in New Zealand, was established in 1987 and operates with approximately 230 employees, primarily focusing on the design and production of assets for movies, videos, and sound industries. Functioning as a design and physical manufacturing facility, the company serves the entertainment and creative sectors by creating a range of elements including entire worlds, weaponry, creatures, costumes, make-ups, and miniatures.
Weta Workshop unveiled the Mouth of Sauron miniature statue on August 14, 2026. The statue draws inspiration from the sinister servant's appearance approaching the Black Gate in the Oscar-winning film, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Previously, on July 30, 2026, Black Bear Pictures released the official trailer for "Wicker." Weta Workshop developed a humanoid character for the film without using CGI, a technical achievement highlighted by actor Alexander Skarsgård's comments on its "nipples made out of wicker."
