Weverse, a South Korean digital communication platform developed by entertainment company HYBE, recently disclosed a major data breach on September 10, exposing sensitive personal information from over 420,000 user accounts. This disclosure follows the company's report to South Korea’s Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on September 3, which specified 422,584 affected user accounts. CEO Yang Joo-il stated on September 9 that the personal information of more than 4.2 lakh users was leaked on the evening of September 6. Earlier, on September 8, Weverse President Zooil Yang acknowledged the "personal data leak" affecting over 420,000 accounts, detailing compromised purchase information in a general notice and initiating a "full investigation." Separately, on September 8, Weverse Co. Ltd. signed a business agreement with Daejeon City and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to develop and demonstrate an urban safety AI model, aimed at upgrading Daejeon City's urban safety management system through the integration of artificial intelligence and digital twin technology.
