Williams Racing is a privately owned company based in the UK. Founded in 1977, with approximately 730 employees, the company functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer. It operates as a Formula One team, specializing in spectator sports.
Carlos Sainz, whose contract is set to expire, reportedly remains interested in working with former Ferrari colleague Mattia Binotto again, though Audi could complicate such a move. Sainz joined Williams in 2025 after losing his seat at Ferrari to Lewis Hamilton. Earlier on June 26, the FIA confirmed that Williams, along with Cadillac, used a curfew exemption ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix without further action, adhering to Formula 1 regulations that prohibit team personnel from working during a designated overnight period. On June 24, Luke Browning will drive Sainz’s FW48 for first practice at the Austrian Grand Prix as part of mandatory rookie outings. This follows re-emerging rumors on June 23 linking Sainz to Audi, reportedly due to frustration with Williams' 2026 campaign. Sainz had previously chosen Williams over Audi when the latter acquired Sauber two years ago. Also on June 23, team boss James Vowles stated Williams aims to compete for the Formula 1 championship in 2030, potentially the final year of current regulations.
