World Snooker is a privately owned company headquartered in the UK. Founded in 2010, the company, which is responsible for promoting the World Snooker Tour (WST), employs approximately 100 individuals and reported $44.2M in revenue as of 2024. Operating as a tier 3 media tech buyer specializing in bar sports, the principal stakeholder in World Snooker Ltd is Matchroom Sport, which owns 51 percent of the company, while the sport's governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), owns 26 percent. To compete on the World Snooker Tour, players must be WPBSA members.
Barry Hawkins on March 25 expressed "mixed feelings" regarding the decision to keep the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre until at least 2045, citing both "pros and cons" for the venue's continued role. Previously on March 25, players Neil Robertson and Mark Williams publicly supported the confirmation that the sport's blue-riband event would remain in Sheffield. This development followed a March 23 announcement that secured the Crucible as the tournament's home for the next two decades, a landmark deal made possible by an intervention from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Prime Minister Starmer reportedly greenlit a £45 million funding deal for a venue upgrade that would add 500 new seats, increasing capacity to nearly 1,500 fans. The move came amid previous threats from snooker boss Barry Hearn to relocate the championship to international venues such as Saudi Arabia or China once the existing Crucible deal expired.
