A1 Telekom Austria, also known as A1 or A eins, traces its origins to Austria's first GSM mobile phone network, which began testing in 1992 and commenced commercial operations in 1994 under the name Mobilkom Austria. Mobilkom Austria was formerly part of the Austrian state-owned PTT agency Post- und Telegraphenverwaltung (PTV, ÖPT) until it became a separate company in 1996. Following Mobilkom's merger with A1 Telekom Austria Group in July 2010, the company began operating under the name A1 Telekom Austria.
