America Movil, also known as América Móvil, S.A.B. de C.V., is a publicly owned company headquartered in Mexico. Founded in 1986, it employs approximately 176,000 individuals and reported $49.2B in revenue as of 2025. The company functions as an international telecoms operator.
América Móvil faces a near-term operating test in Mexico, where new prepaid registration rules, with staggered deadlines for existing users, begin August 15. Management noted a shift in customer behavior around registration, prompting investors to question whether future subscriber volatility will reflect regulation or underlying demand. Earlier, on July 29, Claro Puerto Rico, an América Móvil subsidiary, committed to investing $35 million in constructing a second landing station for the AMX-1 submarine cable in Ponce. This project aims to strengthen the island’s telecommunications infrastructure, enhance resilience, and ensure greater continuity and diversity of connectivity services. This followed América Móvil S.A.B. de C.V. reporting its second-quarter numbers on July 25, which missed analyst estimates.
