Gray Media, owner of WECT, agreed to acquire six television stations from American Spirit Media for $50 million on July 17, 2026. This acquisition notably includes Wilmington's Fox affiliate WSFX-TV (channel 26), a station WECT had co-managed for years. Previously on July 13, Gray Media detailed the stations it would acquire, stating the deal expands its presence across regional markets in Toledo, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Wilmington, North Carolina; Columbus, Georgia; Wichita Falls, Texas; and Lake Charles, Louisiana. The company first announced its agreement to purchase American Spirit Media's six television stations for $50 million on July 1, building on long-standing relationships between Gray and the stations.
