Previously, federal officials, including Wayne Long, stated on September 24 that the Nackawic pulp mill had not yet detailed what it would need to reopen. AV Group initially announced on September 22 its plan to temporarily idle the Nackawic mill in early November, attributing the move to challenging market conditions and broader macroeconomic factors. On September 21, Natural Resources Minister John Herron expressed concerns that the mill might never resume production, following the company's announcement of the temporary shutdown by the end of October.
