The Baltimore Orioles are a privately owned American professional baseball team founded in 1894. Currently competing in Major League Baseball's American League East Division, the franchise began as one of the American League's eight charter members in 1901, initially playing in Milwaukee before relocating to St. Louis in 1902. The team moved to Baltimore in 1953 following a purchase by local investors. Employing approximately 880 people, the Orioles are headquartered in the United States and play their home games at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which opened in 1992. They are also known by the nicknames "O's" and "Birds".
