Barcolana, a privately owned company founded in 1969 and headquartered in Italy, organizes the Barcolana sailing regatta. This annual event, held in the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of October, is a spectator sport. Employing approximately 10 people as of 2023, Barcolana achieved a Guinness World Record in 2019 for being the largest sailing race, with 2,689 boats and over 16,000 sailors participating. The regatta is organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano yacht club.
