Basketball England, a privately owned organization founded in 1936, is the governing body for basketball in England. With approximately 180 employees based in the UK, the organization's primary activity is the management and organization of spectator sports. This includes overseeing the English Basketball League for both men and women, and managing the English national basketball teams. As of 2023, Basketball England continues to operate in this capacity.
On June 30th, Basketball England appointed Nigel Walker OBE as Interim Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Stewart Kellett who stepped down after nine years in the role. Kellett's tenure included improvements to the organisation's reputation, governance, safeguarding, and integrity practices. Separately, a new second-tier British basketball league, British Championship Basketball (BCB), was formed in a collaboration between the British Basketball Federation (BBF) and the three Home Country Associations. Furthermore, England's U14s and U18s teams will participate in the 2025 Future Stars tournament from August 28th to 31st. Finally, a £10 million investment was announced to promote basketball in Great Britain through a partnership between the UK government and the NBA.
