The Big Ten Conference, a non-profit organization founded in 1896 and headquartered in the US, is a collegiate athletic conference comprised of universities. As of 2023, it employs approximately 170 people and provides over $200 million in direct financial support to more than 9,500 student-athletes participating in over 11,000 opportunities across 350 teams in 42 sports. The conference officially sponsors 28 sports, with 14 each for men and women, including men's ice hockey and men's and women's lacrosse added in 2013. Its primary activity is the organization and administration of spectator sports.
The Big Ten Conference announced the Student-Athlete Issues Commission (SAIC) members for the 2025-2026 academic year on an unspecified date. Student-athletes were nominated by their respective institutions and appointed by the Conference’s Joint Group Executive Committee. On August 28, 2025, the Conference announced a partnership extension with Dragon Seats to provide climate-controlled sideline benches at all 18 member schools' visiting sidelines for the 2025 football season. The Big Ten Conference, in conjunction with Abbott, launched the second annual “We Give Blood” blood drive competition from August 27 to December 5. The University of Iowa Athletics Department also participated in this initiative.
