Canada West, a privately owned organization founded in 1972, is the governing body for university sports in Western Canada. As of 2023, it employs approximately 20 people and is headquartered in Canada. Its primary function is the oversight and administration of intercollegiate athletic competitions.
On August 14, 2025, University Canada West participated in a business session for Filipino-Canadian entrepreneurs and companies involved in business with the Philippines. The session, held at the Canadian College of Technology and Business in Vancouver, was organized in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Toronto, the Migrant Workers Office in Vancouver, the Philippines Canada Trade Council, and University Canada West. Separately, Dr. Abedeh Gholidoust, an Associate Professor at University Canada West, discussed the role of urban resilience modeling in developing climate policies in Canada. A memo revealed concerns that the departure of large salmon farming operators from the province could negatively impact closed containment salmon farms by limiting their access to Atlantic salmon eggs. Finally, unrelated to University Canada West, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Wednesday a new tariff rate quota for steel imports from countries with free trade agreements with Canada, excluding the United States.
