Privately owned Cooke Optics, headquartered in the UK, was founded in 1893 and employs approximately 150 individuals. The company reported $15.9M in revenue as of 2025. Specializing in content acquisition, Cooke Optics manufactures cinematography lenses and optics for the motion picture, television, and advertising industries. The company offers a full range of primes and zooms for 35mm, digital, and Super 16mm photography, in addition to a range of large format stills lenses, and its products are noted for rendering characteristics that provide dimensionality and high contrast.
Cooke Optics expanded the availability of its AP3 and SP3 cinema prime lenses to Nikon Z-mount cameras on July 30, adding to existing mount options for Sony E, L-Mount, Canon RF, and Leica M. This development allows filmmakers to natively mount the spherical and anamorphic prime lenses onto Nikon Z bodies and RED cinema cameras featuring the Z mount. The company made Z-mounts available for its SP3 and AP3 lens series in response to strong demand from the cinematography community. Previously, on July 28, Cooke Optics announced it had entered into a licensing agreement with Nikon to integrate the Z-mount into its SP3 and AP3 mirrorless lens range. The five-lens SP3 range, each equipped with a T2.4 aperture, was initially introduced in September 2023.
