This follows DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) expanding on March 9, inviting organizations not yet funded by QBI to join under a new Stage A Quantum Benchmarking Initiative Topic (QBIT). QBI's ongoing effort aims to rigorously determine whether any quantum computing architecture can achieve utility-scale operation—where its computational value exceeds its cost—by 2033. Earlier, on March 8, DARPA unveiled its SPeed and Runway INdependent Technologies (SPRINT) program, introducing the new X-76, which aims to eliminate the difficult choice between the high speed of a runway-dependent aircraft and the go-anywhere flexibility of a slower helicopter.
