News Summary:

On August 1, 2025, Optus Sport ended its service, concluding nearly a decade of broadcasting football in Australia. This followed the transfer of key football rights, including the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, J.League, and National Women’s Soccer League, to Stan Sport. Nine Entertainment Co, through its subsidiary Stan, acquired selected Optus Sport assets, including media rights agreements, subscriber agreements, and social media assets. These assets included media rights for the Premier League and the Emirates FA Cup. Following this acquisition, and the sale of Premier League and FA Cup rights to Nine, Optus Sport's parent company, Singtel, shut down Optus Sport. Howard Rees, formerly head of Optus Sport and widely credited with growing its audience, joined Nine Entertainment's Streaming and Broadcast leadership team as chief strategy officer. Rees confirmed this appointment on LinkedIn on Wednesday evening.
