Founded in 1994, with approximately 2000 employees, the company specializes in animation and post-production. The studio has produced 53 feature films, with its first film, Antz, released on October 2, 1998, and its latest, Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie, released on September 26, 2025. Its upcoming slate of films includes Forgotten Island on September 25, 2026, a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2 on June 11, 2027, Shrek 5 on June 30, 2027, Cocomelon: The Movie in 2027, and an untitled film on September 22, 2028.
On March 8, 2026, DreamWorks Animation's popular franchises, including the recent hit film "The Bad Guys 2" and "Trolls: The Beat Goes On," became available for streaming on Peacock. Previously, on March 7, DreamWorks Animation appointed Troy Quane, known for co-directing Netflix's "Nimona," to helm "The Wild Robot Escapes," the forthcoming sequel to the 2024 animated film "The Wild Robot." This followed news from March 3, when nearly every movie in DreamWorks' major franchises, such as Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda, landed on Prime Video ahead of an anticipated sequel next year.
