Founded in 1986, the company specializes in broadcast television and radio. It functions as a private pay-television broadcaster and production company, operating commercially as M-Net and legally as Electronic Media Network Proprietary Limited. Established by a consortium of South African newspaper publishers, M-Net launched its first analog channel in 1986. Today, it operates as the general entertainment content, production, and channel division of MultiChoice Group, supplying curated local and international television, feature films, and original drama across sub-Saharan Africa.
