News Summary:

Energie Wasser Bern (EWB) and Swisscom have nearly completed the construction of a fibre network in Bern, which by the end of 2026 will connect over 15,000 premises, encompassing approximately 100,000 units including homes, offices, and businesses, representing over 90 percent of the city's premises. This joint project, based on an agreement signed at the end of 201, saw EWB responsible for approximately 70 percent of the network build and Swisscom for the remaining 30 percent. Previously, on February 9, 2026, EWB began purchasing biomethane from Axpo Biomasse AG's new processing plant in Aarberg. This plant replaced a previous combined heat and power facility, now producing biomethane from regional green waste.
