Previously, on April 22, 2026, EWB and Swisscom neared completion of a fibre network build in Bern, which by the end of 2026 will connect over 15,000 premises, totaling approximately 100,000 units and covering over 90 percent of the city's premises. This joint project, based on a late 2021 agreement, saw EWB responsible for about 70 percent of the network construction and Swisscom for 30 percent. Earlier, on February 9, 2026, Axpo Biomasse AG's fermentation plant in Aarberg realigned its energy production by replacing its combined heat and power plant with a modern biogas processing facility that produces biomethane from regional green waste, which EWB purchases.
