European Weightlifting Federation, also known as EWF, is a state-owned organization headquartered in Turkey. Founded in 1969 and employing approximately 40 individuals, the federation reported $2.4M in revenue as of 2023 and is classified as a tier 3 media tech buyer. Functioning as a permanent non-profit organization focused on athletics and multi-discipline sports, the EWF is composed of 49 National Federations affiliated with it.
On April 22, 2026, Day 5 of the EWF European Championships in Batumi saw Janette Ylisoini of Finland secure the women’s 77 kg title and Marin Robu of Moldova win the men’s 88 kg category. Earlier in April, on the 14th, the EWF announced the 2026 EWF Youth Training Camp will convene in Macolin, Switzerland, from July 12 to 19, extending an invitation to all EWF National Federations. Previously, from February 12 to 15, 2026, the Armenian Weightlifting Federation invited three EWF Technical Committee members to conduct an EWF Technical Official Seminar in Yerevan, held in conjunction with the 2026 Armenian National Weightlifting Championship. This followed the EWF’s agreement signing on February 5, 2026, with the EOC EU Office of Sports, the Brussels-based representation for the European Olympic Committees that promotes Olympic Movement interests at the EU level. Concluding its 2025 official meetings on December 30, 2025, the EWF Executive Board canceled the 2026 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships, originally slated for Poland, and confirmed a revised youth competition calendar.
