Previously, on January 8, 2026, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told Geo TV that the country might no longer require an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout, claiming defence orders had surged following a May 2025 military clash with India. Earlier, on September 23, 2025, Minister Asif confirmed during an interview with Geo TV that Saudi Arabia would fall under Islamabad's nuclear umbrella if required, marking the first direct acknowledgment of such a bilateral defense pact and referencing Pakistan's nuclear deterrence established in the 1990s.
