Cricket West Indies recently appointed Ottis Gibson as fast bowling consultant on May 27, 2026. Gibson, who previously served as head coach from 2010 to 2014 and was at the helm when the team won its first T20 World Cup, returns after a 12-year hiatus. Previously, on December 4, 2025, New Zealand's Blackcaps established a 481-run lead over West Indies, powered by a partnership from captain Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra. Earlier, on August 1, 2025, Pakistan defeated West Indies by 14 runs in the first T20I, with Mohammad Nawaz taking three wickets and Saim Ayub scoring 57 runs, extending West Indies' T20I record to two wins in 19 games. This followed news on July 19, 2025, that Pakistan's tour to West Indies might be reduced from three T20Is and three ODIs to only three T20 matches, reportedly due to the West Indies Cricket Board's rigid stance.
