DeepMind Technologies Limited, also known as Google DeepMind, is a privately owned British-American artificial intelligence research laboratory and subsidiary of Google, headquartered in the UK. On July 31, 2026, Google DeepMind unveiled Gemini Robotics 2, a new system and family of artificial intelligence models for humanoid and other robotic platforms. The release centers on three models covering action reasoning and on-device adaptation for robotics tasks, designed to power robots capable of full body movement, delicate task handling, and collaboration with other robots. Earlier the same day, Google confirmed to the Financial Times the shutdown of DeepMind's AlphaFold team, reassigning remaining members to projects like Gemini. This followed Google DeepMind's July 29 confirmation to the Financial Times that it dissolved the dedicated group behind AlphaFold, the protein structure prediction system that earned Demis Hassabis and John Jumper the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Amidst this dissolution, Anthropic reportedly poached a Nobel laureate from Google DeepMind. Separately, a DeepMind leader participated in G7 discussions on economic competitiveness, national security, critical infrastructure, and governance, joining other frontier AI organizations and government officials on July 31.
