Google DeepMind, a privately owned British-American artificial intelligence research laboratory founded in 2010, is a subsidiary of Google. Headquartered in the UK, it employs approximately 2020 people and its primary output is research services in the field of artificial intelligence.
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis warned that artificial intelligence could repeat social media's mistakes, estimating that Artificial General Intelligence, AI comparable to human intelligence, is five to ten years away. Separately, Google DeepMind announced advancements in AI for fluid dynamics, a collaboration with researchers from Brown University, New York University, and Stanford University. A former Google DeepMind researcher co-founded Mantic AI, a British artificial intelligence startup that achieved eighth place in the Metaculus Cup, an international forecasting competition involving predictions on 60 events over the summer.
